Engineer’s Requirements and the ABC Difference

Engineers require peers to be 6,000-6,500 PSI. That is determined by the gauge on the hydraulic compression machine (such as the one below).

At ABC, we require 8,000-8,500 PSI. Sometimes to achieve that pressure, we have to water jet the piers in the ground. If we get 8,000 PSI or better, there is less than 1% pier failure which means no callbacks.

Without these high levels of standards, if the ground shifts underneath the newly installed piers, it can cause damage to the slab, footings, and base of your building.

Some examples of damages that may occur are as follows:

Tilting
The entire base shifts position.
Settlement
The base sinks because of elements underneath such as a high water table, tree, and plant root structures, etc.
Upheaval
Expanding clay pushes upward on the concrete.
Differential

One section of the base moves more than another section (this shows up as cracks in the walls or doorways).
